My First Business Adventure

Big questions. Little projects. A first look at business.

What could she make that helps someone? Follow Imani’s bookmark idea as your young learner explores what entrepreneurs do, makes a sample and tries a pretend shop. Illustrated stories, simple money examples and drawing activities give you plenty to explore together.

She’ll explore these topics and more

  • Making and testing: choose a small idea, create one sample and notice what to change.
  • First money lessons: count supplies, choose a pretend price and see what remains after costs.
  • Kind customer conversations: listen, explain the item and respect someone’s choice.
  • Her next idea: draw what she tried and talk about what she would do differently.

AGES 10 TO 12 / 45 PAGES

Build Your First Business

Explore the questions behind “Could I sell this?”

An idea is only the beginning. Through Aliyah’s bookmark project, she’ll explore who an offer could help, what customers actually say, and how much time and money a small project needs. Explained examples and guided worksheets give her space to investigate an idea of her own.

She’ll explore these topics and more

  • Customers and feedback: ask useful questions and separate a compliment from an order.
  • Original products: compare existing options, test a sample and explain what the buyer gets.
  • Costs, prices and profit: follow the money through a batch and understand why cash is not the same as profit.
  • Time and orders: plan the work, set a manageable limit and check each finished item.
  • Honest promotion: describe the offer clearly and use feedback to choose a next step.

In the activity kit: map an offer, record customer clues, compare estimated and actual work time, and keep a practice money record.

Worked calculations and realistic business decisions connect the vocabulary to situations she can think through for her own project.

She’ll explore these topics and more

  • Customer research: investigate a specific problem and test assumptions before spending more.
  • Offers and boundaries: define the deliverable, revisions, timing and work included in the price.
  • Pricing and break even: compare costs, calculate the sales needed to cover them and consider the time involved.
  • Marketing and delivery: support claims with facts, clarify orders and respond when plans change.
  • Records and next steps: distinguish revenue, costs and family funding, then decide whether to continue, revise or pause.

In the activity kit: outline a limited offer, compare price and workload, plan a small test and explain a launch decision using the evidence collected.

A LITTLE SUPPORT FOR YOU, TOO

Read a story.
Talk it through. Try an idea.

Start with an ebook lesson, talk through its example, then use the matching activity page for her own idea. The parent guide offers a flexible five session plan and questions for each age group.

For younger children, that might mean drawing and counting together. Older learners can write, calculate and explain their choices, with an adult nearby for questions and practical support.

A real sale is not required. Every bundle can be completed as a pretend business project with adult support.

BEFORE YOU CHOOSE

Questions parents ask

What counts as an activity?

Each age bundle has 12 worksheet activities and three guided practice cases in the ebook. The ebook also includes short lesson questions and next step prompts. Covers, instructions and worked examples are not counted as separate activities.

Are the three age bundles different?

Yes. Each age group has its own ebook, illustrations, examples and activity kit. Ages 6 to 9 focus on drawing, simple samples and pretend money; ages 10 to 12 on customer questions, costs and planning; ages 13 to 16 on customer research, what an offer includes, covering business costs, and planning how much work she can do. The 10 page parent guide is shared across the bundles. The $45 family collection includes all three age groups; a $19 bundle includes one age group.

What will I receive?

An age bundle is one ZIP download containing three PDFs: the ebook, matching activity kit and parent guide. The family collection contains seven PDFs, with the shared parent guide included once. No physical books or supplies are included.

How do I receive my download?

Purchase through our website. After purchase, look for the download link on your order confirmation page and in your confirmation email. Use your own adult email address at checkout.

Can we print them or type our answers?

Yes. Pages are sized for U.S. Letter paper. Use a PDF app that lets you type into the answer boxes. Save your file, close it, and open it again to check that your answers stayed saved. You will need to do the calculations yourself. Keep a blank copy for another idea.

Which age group should I choose?

Start with her age range and the skills described on her product card. Younger children will need more adult help. Adapt the pace to your learner.

Does this include the online learning program?

This is a standalone PDF purchase. Online course enrollment, videos and coaching are not included.

Does she need an existing business?

No. Start with a small idea and complete the activities with a pretend business. She can practice without making real sales. The activities do not promise sales or income.

Are these materials U.S. specific?

Yes. The policy references are written for the United States and dated September 2026. An adult should check the requirements that apply before any real selling.
